Wishing you a very merry Christmas

This year has been challenging for many of us and for many reasons.

But seeing the Pohutukawa tree in bloom certainly lifted my spirits and reminded me to celebrate the good things.

One of my neighbours is obviously into celebration.

Many Aucklanders celebrated the beginning of the traffic light system with a haircut, a trip to a restaurant and an in-person catch up with friends.

I caught up with my book club group this weekend. For me this was a real eye-opener as I realised how much I have missed seeing real people rather than ZOOM and Teams people.

My hope is that we all take care over the next weeks so we can all safely celebrate Christmas and the summer break with family and friends.

Start Smart in 2022

A couple of weeks ago, I thought smart was getting a haircut after so many weeks in lockdown. However, thinking ahead to 2022, at WritersInc we think …

Smart is…being accountable (i.e. on time and in budget)
Smart is…being good to work with
Smart is…doing the things that count
Smart is…acting on opportunities
Smart is…planning work and keeping focussed.

Writing. How Long Does it Take?

Being smart at work often involves prioritising and juggling tasks. Being smart at work is being able to plan and prioritise so you are not constantly ‘firefighting.’

For us, being smart, means the ability to be in control of our work. One way of doing this is for us to estimate how long a documentation project is likely to take. This can be a challenging task even for small projects. But once we have a time estimate, we can organise our work in a way that suits us and our clients. We may need to work exclusively on one project, especially if it’s urgent, or we can pace ourselves, leaving time to fit in urgent requests, and/or manage changes and delays.

If writing is part of your role and you would like to learn more about scoping a documentation project, have a look at this video.
