First set of questions from January Quiz

During January, we've been publishing a quiz question each day on our Facebook page.

  1. If you have intractable singultus you have chronic hiccups!
  2. The Stoat has the longest gestation period - 280 days. A rabbit is only 31 days, and an opossum is an unbelievable 12 - 13 days.
  3. Herpetophobia is a fear of reptiles and amphibians.
  4. Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks.
  5. Nikola Tesla developed alternating current.
  6. An obelus looks like ÷ and is used to mark a questionable passage of text. It's also the name of the division symbol in maths.
  7. The Quarrymen were a British band, formed by John Lennon in Liverpool in 1956, which evolved into the Beatles in 1960.
  8. The capital of Peru is Lima with a population of almost 10 million.
  9. 49 is NOT a prime number (7 x 7 = 49). All the other numbers were only divisible by 1 and the number itself.
  10. Elton John wrote the music to the movie The Lion King.  Some trivia for you - Elton John expressed an interest in writing "ultra-pop songs that kids would like; then adults can go and see those movies and get just as much pleasure out of them", mentioning a possible influence of The Jungle Book (1967), where he felt the "music was so funny and appealed to kids and adults".
  11. A ferrule is a ring or cap, typically a metal one, which strengthens the end of a handle, stick, or tube and prevents it from splitting or wearing.
