Case Study – How MadCap Flare makes it easy to write manuals

We have been working with a company who manufacture a range of electronic products for the international market.

There were many issues with their existing manuals which had been largely written by engineers. It was common to see instructions duplicated in a manual but often these were slightly different (and often no one knew which set of instructions was correct), and then existing manuals had been copied and tweaked to create new manuals so the errors multiplied.

WritersInc introduced the client to MadCap Flare.  Amongst other things this tool enables us to create one topic (e.g. a set of instructions) and add it to different documents such as Operation/User and Maintenance Manuals, Quick Reference Guides, etc.  (Single source) Using built in functionality we can adjust the topic slightly as required for different markets and/or different manuals.  It’s easy to generate outputs in different formats so we are able to output online manuals in HTML as well as Word and PDF formats.

Now MadCap Flare have introduced new functionality that enables us to easily create training collateral, including eLearning.  This enables us to use that one single source of information right throughout documentation and training.  And when we need to change something, we’re changing it in only one place.
